About the Space and Building
The studio is 200 sqft (so 100 each) with 14 foot ceilings (lots of room to go UP, happy to help build something), well lit with multiple outlets. Two ventilation fans whisk air outside to the hallway where it’s taken up by the building’s recently upgraded HVAC system. There’s a spray booth with vent as well for those sorts of projects. Includes access to 2 common kitchens, each with slop sink, solvent and rag disposal, fridges, microwaves, toaster ovens, and even an espresso machine! The front kitchen also has a printer/copier and two vending machines, one for snacks and one for drinks. There are also two common utility areas with things like shop vacs, brooms, and ladders for us to use. Two elevators (one larger for major moves) and stairwells. Lift key access required as well as individual pin codes to get into the building and then up to the studios, so very secure. Mail room for receiving packages.
Sports two bathrooms, one with a shower (primarily used for things like soaking large pieces of paper, that kind of thing, but a godsend if your water goes out)
Lounge areas are located at each hallway’s end near windows. Access to a large rooftop (not pictured) with grills where we have get togethers and throw little parties in the summer. There is also a gallery space on the floor where shows are held throughout the year by studio tenants. Community here is quite friendly, many have been here for years. The building participates in Open Studios events and the like, so you can share what you do with people if it pleases you!
About Me
I’m looking for someone to split my studio with 50/50. Each would have 100 sqft to work with, with 14 foot ceilings, so even more room to go up. I’m a painter working primarily in oils. I don’t really use much in the way of solvent and prefer to keep the air relatively clean. I’m organized without being a neat-freak; it’s an art studio, after all. I work in the studio around 5 days a week, from around 10-6 typically. I’m pretty quiet in the studio and am used to working alongside people. Friendly, but I’ll usually just have my headphones on working most of the time. Not exactly a place to host a bunch of guests, or at least not super often, but I’m flexible! It’s not a monastery! Visits with gallerists, artists, and curators are obvious exceptions, and are something we should be flexible for.
Ideal studio mate would be someone who’s friendly, dedicated, and looking for a longer term studio situation. Bonus if you’re a night owl! You’ll have the place to yourself then, if that’s your speed.
I’ve loved working here so I hope I’ll find someone who jives and loves it too : )
